santorini II
In September 2023, I spent a week walking around the Greek island of Santorini. The island is under pressure: large crowds of (cruise ship) tourists flood the island every day, causing congestions and long queues. Luxury hotels compete in a rat race to offer the best facilities, including Caldera-view pools of only a few square meters. And tourists are everywhere, taking selfies and - some of them - taking part in 'flying dress' photo shoots, living the dream. Is the island slowly falling victim to its own beauty? And, more importantly, what's beyond the crowds? Here's a first peek into the area around the airport that most tourists get away from as quickly as possible - so I stayed.
